(I)Brief History
(A) Our school was started in 1964 by the Della Sale Christian brothers and the Late Bishop Caeser Maina Gatimu. The land where the school seats was bought in 1962 by Bishop Cavalela at £8000.
The school was started at Cater for the boy child, while the sister school B.Gatimu Ngandu girls was for the girl child in the then Nyeri Catholic Diocese, a mandate which the two schools have fulfilled. More than 9,200 students have gone through the school, the school currently has 967 students. The school had very strong Christian traditions which are still emphasized even today, making it possible to have high level of discipline and hence good performance even when the school is located in town. To this, I thank the church for their concern and follow ups.
The first headmaster was Brother Joseph who later became the Chancellor of Jerusalem University. Other Headmasters /Principals included, Mr. Daniel Kabuthu, Mr. Francis Mwangi, Mr. Stephen Ndung’u, Mr. S.K. Chambari, Mr. Nickson Kamau,Mr. F.K.K. Mwangi, Mr. Kamata, Mr. Edward Githongo, Mr. Robert Kibandi, Mr. John Gichohi, Mr. Andrew Karimi and currently Mr. Samuel W. Kahura.
The school hosted the first candidates of Nyandarua High School and among the first candidate was Mr. Kaguthi, former P.C., Director of NACADA. The school was also acting as a gateway for schools from Samburu on their way to Nakuru, where they would spend the night in school and share with boys from Nyahururu High School. Many of the people who have passed through the school are in positions of leadership in this country in various professions. Some are senior politicians like Governors, Senators, Members of parliament, Speakers of County Assemblies, Lawyers, Engineers, Doctors, Chief Executive officers, Principals of leading institutions both private and public. Among those are Mr. Nelson Kuria, the C.E.O. of C.I.C group of companies, Prof. Kiya of KIPPRA, Dr. Kariithi of K.N.H,
Mr. Wachira of Kenya Petroleum, Hon. Nderitu Gachagua (Governor of Nyeri), Hon. Muriuki Karue (Senator of Nyandaru), Hon. Muchiri Gachara (Former M.P. Ndaragwa), Prof. Kioni. Hence the contribution of production of leadership from Nyahururu High School is commendable.
